Special Instruction Available For The Use Of The 6V4040 Nitrogen Tire Inflation Group{4203,0374}

Usage:

A Special Instruction, "The Use Of The 6V4040 Nitrogen Tire Inflation Group," Form No. SMHS7867, is available. The Special Instruction gives information about the parts in the group and the procedures for the use of the group for tire fill and pressure adjustments.

Tires on most U.S.-built Caterpillar machines (except lift trucks) are filled with dry nitrogen (N2) gas at the factory. Caterpillar recommends the use of dry nitrogen (N2) gas for both tire fill and for pressure adjustments on all current machines and earlier machines. Nitrogen will not burn inside the tire.

Information about the danger of heat-caused tire explosions and about the use of dry nitrogen gas for tire fill is given in the December 22, 1980, Service Magazine, "Tires Are Filled With Nitrogen."
