PROBLEM
The existing lip seals may be damaged on certain D6T and D6T XL Track-Type Tractors. If an existing lip seal has been damaged it may allow oil to transfer from the final drive to the powertrain oil system. |

ACTION REQUIRED
1 - Check the oil level in the final drive according to: "SEBU8146 : Final Drive Oil Level ? Check". An abnormally low oil level may be an indication that the lip seal needs to be replaced. 2 - Follow Disassembly and Assembly: "Final Drive Planetary Carrier (In Chassis) ? Remove". 3 - Install the new 269-4739 Lip Seal using a 1P-0520 Driver Group. Install the seal to a minimum depth of 9.65mm (0.4in). Make sure "This Side Out" is facing out from the spindle. Do not apply excessive force to lip seal during installation in order to avoid damaging the seal. 4 - Put clean oil on the lip of the seal. 5 - Follow Disassembly and Assembly: "Complete Final Drive Planetary Carrier (In chassis) ? Install" Refer to the OMM and fill the final drives with oil to the proper level. |

If a lip seal has been damaged, oil may transfer from the final drive to the powertrain oil system. Your cooperation in scheduling the replacement of this lip seal with your dealer is requested. Checking oil levels more frequently than the normal 250 hour interval could be performed as a precautionary measure until the service is scheduled. You will not be charged for the service performed. Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 07Mar2011 when scheduling this service.
