PROBLEM
The existing differential carrier bearings (1M6573/9M2744 and 4B9373/4B9374) in the 242-8673 Gear Gp. can fail on certain 993K Large Wheel Loaders. If the existing differential carrier bearings fail, it can/will lead to resultant damage throughout the gear group and axle assembly. |

ACTION REQUIRED
If it is determined that the differential carrier bearings have failed, replace the current 242-8673 Differential and Bevel Gear Group with the new 367-9408 Differential and Bevel Gear Group or as necessary if the following conditions are met: iron particle levels are greater than 700 PPM and chromium particle levels are greater than 4 PPM. The following conditions are determined by regularly monitoring the recommended SOS sampling along with magnetic plug inspection and filter media inspection. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, KENR5817, for the remove, disassemble, assemble, and install procedures on the differential and bevel gear. Axle (Front or Rear) - Remove and Install Axle Shaft - Remove and Install Gear Group - Remove Gear Group - Install Note: This service letter replaces PS43120. |
