FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Product Guide", NENG2500, for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
2. Remove bolts (3) and cover (1). Remove bolt and washer (2) and remove tube and adapter (4).
3. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to aftercooler housing (5). Remove bolts (6) and remove aftercooler housing (5). The weight of the aftercooler housing is approximately 36 kg (79 lb).
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the aftercooler housing.
4. Install new O-ring seals on the aftercooler water inlet and outlet pipes. Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil. Put new gaskets in place on the cylinder head.
5. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to aftercooler housing (5). Put the aftercooler housing on the water pipes and the cylinder head.
6. Put 9S-3263 Thread Lock on bolts (6). Install bolts (6) to hold the aftercooler housing to the cylinder head.
7. Lubricate the O-ring seals on tube (4) with clean engine oil. Install tube (4) into the turbocharger housing. Install washer and bolt (2).
8. Be sure the gaskets for cover (1) and the adapter on tube (4) are in place. Install cover (1) and bolts (3). Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 23 ± 4 N·m (17 ± 3 lb ft).
