Engine Oil Cooler

Usage:

Remove & Install Engine Oil Cooler

Start By:

a. removeil filter base

Fluid Spillage Containment

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

2. Remove bolt (1) to clip on wiring harness.

3. Identify and disconnect wires (2).

4. Unplug wiring harness (5).

5. Remove four bolts (3) and bolts (4). Remove engine oil cooler (6), elbow (7), and the gaskets from the engine.

6. Remove bolts (10) and remove elbow (7) and the gasket from oil cooler (6).

7. Remove four bolts (8), two elbows (9), and the O-ring seals from oil cooler (6).

8. Clean the tube bundles in oil cooler (6) with a 3.18 mm (.125 in) diameter rod.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the engine oil cooler.

9. Put the O-ring seals in elbows (9). Put elbows (9) in position on oil cooler (6). Install four bolts (8).

10. Put elbow (7) and the gasket in position on oil cooler (6). Install bolts (10).

11. Put the gaskets, engine oil cooler (6), and elbow (7) in position on the engine. Install four bolts (3) and bolts (4).

12. Connect wiring harness (5) and wires (2).

13. Install bolt (1) to the clip that fastens the wiring harness to oil cooler (6).

14. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
