This Program must be administered either before or after failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS42828" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Specific pin grabber performance buckets may contact the Caterpillar pin grabber quick coupler frame in the front shovel position. Affected Pin grabber performance buckets may make contact between the bucket doubler plate and the pin grabber quick coupler frame, causing wear to both components.

Modify the affected pin grabber performance buckets to prevent contact between the bucket doubler plate and the pin grabber quick coupler.

Refer to the attached Rework Procedure.

NOTE: Buckets that were built and shipped from the factory after 1 June, 2008 have been corrected. Dealer inventory and customer buckets that were built and shipped prior to 1 June, 2008 may need to be reworked. The tables shown in the attached Rework Procedure list the part numbers and serial numbers of the buckets that may be affected. Although every effort has been made to validate the information in the tables, the tables may not list all affected units.

NOTE: Customers may have multiple affected buckets and therefore multiple Service Letter claims can be entered against a single Pin Grabber Quick Coupler serial number. Each bucket that is reworked should be claimed on a separate claim with the Pin Grabber Quick Coupler serial number entered in the "Serial Number" field, and the affected bucket serial number entered in the "Related Serial Number" field.

Customers may have multiple affected buckets and therefore multiple Service Letter claims can be entered against a single Pin Grabber Quick Coupler serial number. Each bucket that is reworked should be claimed on a separate claim with the Pin Grabber Quick Coupler serial number entered in the "Serial Number" field, and the affected bucket serial number be entered in the "Related Serial Number" field.

Buckets that were built and shipped from the factory after 1 June 2008 have been corrected. Dealer inventory and customer buckets that were built and shipped prior to 1 June 2008 may need to be reworked. The following tables list the part numbers and serial numbers of the buckets that may be affected. Although every effort has been made to validate the information in the following tables, the tables may not list all affected units.

1. To determine if a bucket is affected, attach the bucket to its respective Pin Grabber Coupler and check for bucket doulber plate to Pin Grabber Quick Coupler frame interference as shown in Illustration 1 of Special Instruction REHS3895.

2. If a bucket is determined to be an affected unit in step 1 above, remove material from the bucket as instructed in REHS3895.
