The lower compactor assembly needs to be replaced on the products listed below. The existing lower compactor assembly can cause bearing seizing at very low hours. You will not be charged for the service performed.

Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.

Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 24Nov2008 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure

Note: The 4C-6767 synthetic oil comes in a quantity of 5 gallons which will service approximately 13 CVP40 Vibratory Plate Compactors, each compactor requires 1.5 quarts of oil. Please try to limit charges to one 4C-6767 per 13 compactors, per dealer branch.

Disassembly:

1. Drain the oil from the eccentric weight housing per the Maintenance section of the OMM titled "Eccentric Weight Housing Oil - Change" - media number SEBU7529. Do not refill the housing at this time.

2. Remove the CVP40 from the host machine per the Operation section of the OMM titled "Work Tool Installation and Removal" - media number SEBU7529.

3. Remove the CVP40 frame per the Disassembly and Assembly section of the D&A manual titled "Frame - Remove and Install" - media number RENR4444.

4. Remove the gear motor per the Disassembly and Assembly section of the D&A manual titled "Gear Motor - Remove" - media number RENR4444.

5. Remove the eccentric weight per the Disassembly and Assembly section of the D&A manual titled "Eccentric Weight - Remove - CVP40, CVP75, and CVP110" - media number RENR4444.

Rework:

1. Remove the 206-6384 Bearings (9) from the 206-6386 Bearing Plates (10) and replace with the new 206-6384 Bearings. Refer to Image 1.3.1

2. At the top of the lower compactor assembly, transfer the 8T-0336 Pressure Relief Fitting (1), 207-5945 Plug (13), and 3D-2824 O-ring seal (20) from the existing 205-5891 lower compactor assembly (6) to the new 205-5891 lower compactor assembly. Refer to Image 1.3.1

3. At the lower rear portion of the lower compactor assembly, transfer the 9S-4183 O-ring plug (3) and 3D-2824 O-ring seal (20) from the existing 205-5891 lower compactor assembly (6) to the new 205-5891 Lower Compactor Assembly. Refer to Image 1.3.1

Assembly:

1. Install the eccentric weight per the Disassembly and Assembly section of the D&A manual titled "Eccentric Weight - Install - CVP40, CVP75, and CVP110" - media number RENR4444.

2. Install the gear motor per the Disassembly and Assembly section of the D&A manual titled "Gear Motor - Install" - media number RENR4444.

3. Install the CVP40 frame per the Disassembly and Assembly section of the D&A manual titled "Frame - Remove and Install" - media number RENR4444.

4. Add 4C-6767 Synthetic Oil to the eccentric weight housing per the Maintenance section of the OMM titled "Eccentric Weight Housing Oil - Change" - media number SEBU7529.

5. Install the CPV40 on the host machine per the Operation section of the OMM titled "Work Tool Installation and Removal" - media number SEBU7529.
