Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately. |

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Open the left side access panel in order to access the fuel system secondary fuel filter.

- Remove the filter. Discard the filter properly.
- Clean the mounting base of the fuel filter. Remove any part of the old seal that remains on the mounting base of the fuel filter.
- Install the new filter by hand. When the seal contacts the base, tighten the fuel filter element by an additional 3/4 turn.
Note: Rotational index marks are positioned on the filter at 90 degree intervals. Use these rotation index marks as a guide when you tighten the filter.
- Clean up any spills immediately.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
