Engine Oil Cooler

Usage:

Remove & Install Engine Oil Cooler

Fluid Spillage Containment

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

2. Remove six bolts (2) and six bolts (3).

3. Remove engine oil cooler bonnet (4), gasket (1), gasket (5) and the seal on the adapter.

4. Remove four bolts (8) and remove engine oil cooler (6) and the O-ring seals.

5. Remove adapter (7) and the O-ring seals.

6. Check the condition of the O-ring seals and the gaskets for wear or damage and replace with new parts if necessary.

7. Carefully clean the tube bundles in engine oil cooler (6) with a 3.2 mm (.12 in) diameter rod.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the engine oil cooler.

8. Install the O-ring seals on adapter (7) and install the adapter inengine oil cooler (6). Lubricate the bore and seal lightly with glycerin.

9. Install the O-ring seals and put the engine oil cooler in position on the engine. Install bolts (8).

10. Install the O-ring seals on the adapter and on engine oil cooler bonnet (4).

11. Put engine oil cooler bonnet (4) in position on the engine oil cooler.

12. Put gasket (1) in position and install bolts (2). Put gasket (5) in position and install bolts (3).

13. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 55 ± 7 N·m (40 ± 5 lb ft).

14. Fill the engine with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Module.
