Engine Oil Pan

Usage:

Remove Engine Oil Pan

Fluid Spillage Containment

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the oil from the engine oil pan in to a suitable container for storage or disposal.

2. Remove tube assembly (1) and the gaskets.

3. Remove bolts (2) from around the engine oil pan. Use two people to remove engine oil pan (3). The weight of the 3408 Engine oil pan is approximately 14 kg (31 lb). The weight of the 3412 Engine oil pan is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

4. Remove the gasket from between the engine oil pan and the cylinder block.

Install Engine Oil Pan

1. Make sure all of the old gasket material has been removed from the mating surfaces of the engine oil pan and the cylinder block. Make sure the surfaces are clean and free of dirt and debris.

2. Put a new gasket (3) into position on the engine oil pan. Use two people to put engine oil pan (2) into position on the engine. The weight of the 3408 Engine oil pan is approximately 14 kg (31 lb). The weight of the 3412 Engine oil pan is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

3. Install bolts (1) that hold pan (2) to the cylinder block.

4. Fill the engine with the recommended oil to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Module.
