Fluid Spillage Containment

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

2. Remove bolts (1).

3. Remove socket head cap screws (2).

4. Remove injector elbow (4).

5. Remove O-ring seals (5).

6. Remove bolt (7).

7. Remove clamp (6).

8. Remove nuts and cap assembly (8).

9. Disconnect wire assembly (10).

10. Install Tool (A) as shown and remove unit injector (9).

11. Remove O-ring seals (11) from unit injector (9).

NOTE: The lower O-ring seal may stick to the unit injector sleeve.

NOTE: Repeat Steps 1 through 11 for the remainder of the unit injectors.

NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the unit injectors.

12. Clean the carbon from:

a. The tapered seat on the unit injector.
b. The tapered seat in the unit injector sleeve.

13. Lubricate O-ring seal (11) and the bore for unit injector (9) lightly with clean engine oil. Install unit injector (9) in its original location.

14. Connect wire assembly (10). Install cap assembly and nuts (8). Tighten nuts (8) to a torque of 1.70 ± 0.25 N·m (15 ± 3 in lb).

15. Install O-ring seals (5).

16. Put clamp (6) in position and install bolt (7).

17. Put injector elbow (4) in position and install bolts (1) and socket head cap screws (2). Tighten bolts (1) and socket head cap screws (2) finger tight only. Bolts (3) were loosened in the removal procedure.

NOTE: Use the following procedure for torquing the injector elbow bolts.

a. Tighten socket head cap screws (2) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).

b. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 5 ± 3 N·m (4 ± 2 lb ft).

c. Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).

d. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft).
