Automatic Shift

Illustration 1g00925312

Illustration 2g00987985

The autoshift switch (1) is in the "AUTO" position when the switch is centered. When the autoshift switch (1) is in the "AUTO" position, the machine ECM automatically upshifts the transmission and the machine ECM automatically downshifts the transmission. An automatic upshift is not possible to a speed that is higher than the speed that is selected by the operator on the transmission speed and direction control lever (2). There is no automatic downshift from second speed to first speed. In order to downshift from second speed, the downshift switch (6) must be pressed or first speed must be selected with the transmission speed and direction control (2).

Manual Shift

Press the bottom of the autoshift switch (1) in order to turn off the autoshift function. The transmission is in the manual mode. The ECM will shift the transmission into the speed that is selected by the operator. The speed that is desired is selected on the transmission direction and speed control lever.

Variable Shift Control (VSC)

Press the top of the autoshift switch (1) in order to place the switch into the "AUTO 1" position. When the autoshift switch (1) is in the "AUTO 1" position, the transmission will shift automatically but the transmission will shift at lower engine speeds than the "AUTO" mode.

Parking Brake

The parking brake circuit uses the following components:

  • Parking Brake Limit Switch

  • Parking Brake Alarm Relay

  • Transmission direction and speed control lever

  • Parking Brake Alarm

The parking brake limit switch is used in order to signal the state of the parking brake to the machine ECM. The brake can be applied or the brake can be released.

An event code will be logged in the machine ECM, when any of the following conditions exist:

  • The parking brake is applied and the transmission direction and speed control lever is shifted to FORWARD or REVERSE.

  • The parking brake is applied and the transmission is not already in NEUTRAL.

Also, the parking brake indicator will illuminate and an alarm will activate. The transmission will remain in NEUTRAL until the transmission speed and direction control is moved to the NEUTRAL position and the parking brake is released.

If the parking brake is disengaged, the machine will return to normal operating condition. The alarm will also be turned off whenever the machine is in neutral.

When the parking brake is applied and the machine speed is above a preset speed, the transmission will automatically downshift in order to slow the machine.

Ride Control (if equipped)

Illustration 3g00988277

The ride control option uses the following components:

  • Transmission Speed Sensor

  • Ride Control Switch

  • Ride Control Relay

Travel at high speeds over rough terrain can cause bucket movement and a swinging motion. The ride control system absorbs the forces from the bucket. The ride control is an optional feature that is determined by the option code input.

Press the top of the ride control switch in order to place the switch in the AUTO position. Press the bottom of the switch in order to place the switch in the ON position. When the switch is centered, the switch is in the OFF position. This feature is enabled when the operator places the ride control switch (3) in the ON position or in the AUTO position. In the ON position, the ride control is always activated and the machine ECM energizes the ride control relay continuously. In the AUTO position, the activation of the ride control is dependent on the machine ground speed. When the transmission speed increases above a preset speed, ride control is activated. When the transmission speed decreases below the preset speed, ride control is deactivated. When the ride control is activated, the ride control solenoid is energized by the ride control relay. When the ride control is deactivated, the ride control solenoid is de-energized by the ride control relay. The activation speed for the ride control function can be changed with ET. The ride control function can also be deactivated with ET.

Neutral Start

In order to start the machine, the following items must be in the proper position:

  • The transmission direction and speed control lever that is mounted on the column must be in NEUTRAL.

  • The transmission direction control switch must be in NEUTRAL.

  • The parking brake must be engaged.

Transmission Direction Control Switch (if equipped)

Illustration 4g00907593

Illustration 5g00988284

The transmission direction control switch (4) is intended to provide easier operation of the machine by reducing motion of the operator during the work cycle. The direction of the transmission is displayed on the display panel (5) that is located on the dash panel cluster.

The transmission direction and speed control lever (2) must be in neutral in order to start the machine. The transmission direction control switch (4) must be in neutral in order to start the machine. If either device is not in neutral, the machine will not start.

The transmission will be placed in neutral if both the transmission direction and speed control lever and the transmission direction control switch indicate a state that is not neutral during operation. Both the transmission direction and speed control lever and the transmission direction control switch must be placed in neutral before normal operation can resume.

Once the machine is started, the machine may be placed into gear by using either the transmission direction and speed control lever (2) or the transmission direction control switch (4). In order to use the transmission direction and speed control lever, ensure that the transmission direction control switch is in the neutral position. Use the transmission direction and speed control lever to select the direction. The appropriate direction indicator should illuminate in the display panel on the dash panel cluster (5) .

In order to use the transmission direction control switch (4), place the transmission direction and speed control lever in neutral. Select the direction with the transmission direction control switch. The appropriate direction indicator should illuminate in the display panel (5) on the dash panel cluster.

Downshift Switch (if equipped)

Illustration 6g00888105

The downshift control uses the following components:

  • Transmission speed sensor

  • Engine speed sensor

  • Transmission direction and speed control lever

  • Autoshift switch

  • Downshift switch

With the autoshift switch in the manual position, the downshift switch (6) is only active when the transmission direction and speed control lever is set to second speed. Pressing and releasing the downshift switch will cause the transmission to downshift to first speed. The transmission will remain in first speed until the transmission direction and speed control lever is moved, either speed or direction change.

With the autoshift switch in the auto position, the downshift switch is active in all speeds. The machine ECM continually monitors the transmission speed and the actual speed in order to calculate the downshift speed for the present inputs. If the downshift switch is pressed and machine speed is less than the downshift speed, the transmission will be downshifted one speed. Holding the downshift switch closed will result in continued downshifts until the machine is in first speed. The downshifts will occur at a minimum of 3 second intervals. Operation of the autoshift function returns to normal 5 seconds after the downshift switch is released or after a direction shift.

Load Check (if equipped)

Illustration 7g00988286

The load check uses the following components:

  • Ride Control/Load Check Switch (7)

  • Load Check Relay

The load check function is an option that is determined by the options code plug. This feature is enabled when the operator places the ride control/load check switch in the ON position. In the ON position, the machine ECM energizes the load check relay. Energizing the relay allows the implements to be lowered to the ground with the lift lever without hydraulic power.

Note: A machine can have the load check function or the ride control function. A machine can NOT have both features.

Transmission Neutralizer Override

Illustration 8g00938567

The transmission neutralizer neutralizes the transmission when the brakes are applied. The transmission neutralizer override switch (8) disables the transmission neutralizer. The switch is a momentary switch. The switch will illuminate when the override is active. When the override is active, the transmission will not neutralize when the brakes are applied.
