14H and 16H Motor Graders Power Train Caterpillar

Transmission Lubrication Oil Pressure - Test

Usage:

16H NA 6ZJ

------ WARNING! ------

When testing and adjusting the transmission and power train, move the machine to an area clear of obstructions, with safe exhaust ventilation for the exhausts. Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the transmission and power train.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Before you begin the test, refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting".

  1. Operate the machine until the transmission oil is at operating temperature of 51 °C (124 °F).

  1. Stop the machine on a hard level surface. Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position. Turn the engine off. Place blocks in front of the wheels and place blocks behind the wheels. Remove the axle from the right side tandem wheels. Remove the axle from the left side tandem wheels.

  1. Remove dust cap (1). Attach the correct pressure gauge to the port.

  1. Be sure that the transmission control lever is in the NEUTRAL position. Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.

  1. At low idle, the pressure should be a minimum of 159 ± 69 kPa (23 ± 10 psi). At high idle, the pressure should be a maximum of 552 ± 103 kPa (80 ± 15 psi).

  1. Attach the correct pressure gauge to the port.

  1. Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Shift the transmission control lever in the First Gear Forward position. The minimum pressure should be 52 ± 17 kPa (7.5 ± 2.5 psi). Run the engine at high idle. The maximum pressure should be 400 ± 48 kPa (58 ± 7 psi).

  1. Shift the transmission control lever in the Neutral position. Turn off the engine and remove the test equipment. Install dust cap (1) .
