Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove".

1. Remove the bolts and cover (1).

2. Fasten suitable lifting straps and a hoist to the rear support.

3. Remove bolts (2), thrust washer (3) and plate (4). Remove the thrust washer that is behind plate (4).

4. Remove the rear support. The weight of the rear support is 45 kg (100 lb).

5. Remove lip type seal (6) and sleeve bearing (7) from the rear support.

6. Remove bolts (8) and trunnion (9). The weight of trunnion (9) is 20 kg (44 lb).

Installation Procedure

1. Apply 1U-8846 Liquid Gasket on the mating surface between trunnion (9) and the axle housing.

2. Install trunnion (9) and bolts (8). The torque for bolts (8) is 300 ± 40 N·m (220 ± 30 lb ft).

3. Use a suitable press and Tooling (A) to install sleeve bearing (7) in the rear support (5).

   (5) Rear support. (6) Lip seal. (7) Sleeve bearing. (9) Trunnion.

   Note: The seal must be installed so that the sealing lip is facing toward the outside of the rear support, as shown.

4. Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (6) in the rear support.

5. Fasten suitable lifting slings and a hoist to rear support (5). Install the rear support on the trunnion. The weight of rear support (5) is 45 kg (100 lb).

6. Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the two thrust washers.

7. Install the thrust washer, plate (4), thrust washer (3), and bolts (2). The torque for bolts (2) is 570 ± 80 N·m (420 ± 60 lb ft).

8. Install cover (1) and the bolts. The torque for the bolts is 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft).

1. Install the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Install".
