Separation Procedure

Start By:

1. Separate the transmission and the torque converter from the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine and Torque Converter, Transmission - Separate".

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

1. Thoroughly clean the outside of the transmission prior to disassembly.

2. Drain the transmission fluid into a suitable container. The capacity of the transmission is 30 L (8 US gal).

3. Install Tooling (A), chains, and a suitable lifting device to transmission (1), as shown. The weight of the transmission is 700 kg (1545 lb).

4. Move the transmission to a clean safe work area. Install the transmission onto Tooling (B), as shown.

5. Install Tooling (C), chains, and a suitable lifting device to transmission cover (2), as shown.

Note: Use a bubble level in order to level the cover.

6. Remove bolts (3) .

7. Carefully lift the transmission cover up far enough to clear input shaft (4). The weight of the transmission cover is 200 kg (441 lb).
