PROBLEM
The nuts and cones in the drive chain group need to be replaced on certain CW16 Pneumatic Compactors equipped with the 11 wheel option. The existing nut/cone retention arrangement can lose its preload allowing the chain case oil to leak through the center of the outer hub on each of the rear chain cases. |

ACTION REQUIRED
If this letter is being applied before failure, follow instructions in Disassembly and Assembly Manual UENR7302 for Wheel and Tire - Remove and Install, then follow instructions for Axle (rear)- Remove and Install completing Steps 2 and 4 only. Then install the new cone and nut and tighten to a torque of 1500 +/- 150 Nm. Re-install the locking nut (you may have to try different orientations of the locking nut to line up the two holes for bolting the nut in place). Do this for all 4 hubs on the rear of the machine. If this is being done after failure, complete all steps necessary to replace any parts that are damaged. If the oil in the chain cases was required to be drained to effect repairs, add the oil to both chain cases following the table in the Installation Procedure in UENR7302. |
