NOTE: This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4581" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Problem

Some IT24F Integrated Toolcarriers and 924F Wheel Loaders may experience high levels of soot in the engine oil prior to the 250 hr. Caterpillar recommended oil change period. High Levels of soot can cause thickening of the oil and may result in excessive oil consumption and high crankcase blowby.

15 - Liters of Multigrade 15W40 Cat DEO oil (3.9 Gals)

NOTE: The Parts List includes the Parts Needed to change the standard oil filter to a larger filter and to add an auxiliary oil filter which increases the overall on-board oil capacity of the engine. The additional filter is machine mounted and when used in conjunction with the larger standard filter increases the oil capacity of the engine by 4 Liters (4.24 Quarts).

Action Required

1. Drain the existing oil from the engine and replace the current Full Flow Oil Filter, 1R0714, with the Larger 1R0739 Full Flow Oil Filter. The new filter will increase the engine oil capacity by 1 Liter (1.06 Quarts).

2. Add the Auxiliary Oil Filter components as shown in Illustration. The installation of Auxiliary filter group will increase the engine oil capacity by 3 Liters (3.18 Quarts).

3. Install 15 Liters of multigrade Caterpillar DEO 15W40 oil. Start the engine and allow engine oil to warm. Check for leaks and correct as required. Stop the engine, allow it to sit for a minimum of 5 minutes and check the oil level. When checking, the dipstick should read between the low level mark and full mark. Do not add oil unless it is below the add mark.

4. a) Review the changes made with the customer, operator and /or maintenance personnel concerning the installation of the larger 1R0739 Full Flow Oil Filter as the Standard Oil Filter and the addition of the Auxiliary Oil Filter group with the 1W8845 filter. Inform them that the engine oil capacity has been increased to 15 Liters (3.9 Gals) and that they need to change their Operation & Maintenance Manual to reflect the change in capacity.

b) Review the fact that the oil change period will remain at the current 250 hr. change period.

c) Provide the customer with copies of Illustration 1, and request that the Illustration be kept as a reference for parts replacement if needed in the future.
