New Latch Used For Engine Side Doors {7263}

Usage:

Description of Change: New latch and locking mechanisms are used on the engine side doors of the above machines. The new latch and locking mechanism are both more reliable and more resistant to wear than the former latch and lock. The new latch also has a longer handle which makes it easier to operate.

Adaptable To: The new 6V8078 Handle Assembly and 8C8837 Lock Assembly are in effect. New door assemblies and covers are used as indicated in the chart. Refer to Illustrations 1 and 2 for the location of the new parts.

Former door assemblies can be modified to accept the new latch and lock by using the following the procedure.

1. Remove the former covers, latches and locks as a unit. Remove the door assemblies.

2. Install the new latches and locks in the new 9R5929 (RH) and 9R5930 (LH) Covers as shown in Illustrations 1 and 2. Refer to the chart for additional part number information.

3. Grind off the former 9R1617 Catch from the door assembly cover opening. See Illustration 3.

4. Fabricate two new 9R1617 Plates as shown in Illustration 4.

NOTE: The 9R1617 Plate is not serviced.

4. Weld the new 9R1617 Plate as indicated in Illustrations 5 and 6 (RH) and Illustrations 6 and 7 (LH).

5. Install door assemblies and covers.
