Final Drive Planet Bearings Caterpillar

Final Drive Planet Bearings

Usage:

TRACK-TYPE TRACTORSD11R (9TR),
D11R CARRYDOZER (9XR) TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS

Problem:

Reports have been received from the field of final drive failures. Early indications are that the problem may be with the first reduction planet bearings (030-0060 Cup and 030-0061 Cone).

Solution:

Initial analysis and testing of these components has shown that final drive life will be increased by closely following both the recommended service intervals and good maintenance practices. The following recommendations are suggested at this time as the investigation continues.

1. Use SAE 60 TO-4 oil in the final drive group.
2. Perform S.O.S. oil analysis at 250 hour intervals.
3. Change final drive oil every 500 hours. In high temperature or continuous high load environments, S.O.S. sampling may indicate the need for earlier changes.

NOTE: When you operate the machine at temperatures below the minimum ambient recommendation specified in the machine Operation and Maintenance Manual, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual SEBU5898, "Cold Weather Recommendations." This is available from your Caterpillar Dealer.
