Usage:
D11R CARRYDOZER (9XR) TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS
Problem:
Loosening of Sprocket Segment Mounting Bolts has been reported on some new D11R Track-Type Tractors. Visual inspection of the Sprocket Segment Mounting Bolts during pre-delivery and again after eight to sixteen hours of operation is recommended.
Solution:
If any loose bolts are found during inspection, please report the finding to Tom Belt in Caterpillar Service Engineering at (309) 494-2976. If any bolts are loose, the following action is recommended:
Remove the loose segment and inspect the hub mounting holes and flange for deformation. Grind flat as required. Inspect the bolts for damage and replace as required. Install the segment. Lubricate both threads with 1E1829 lubricant (SAE 30) or an equivalent and tighten the bolts to a torque of 870 ± 70 N·m (640 ± 51 lb ft). Then tighten an additional 1/3 turn.
On all remaining segments on both final drives of that tractor, loosen each bolt, re-tighten to a torque of 870 ± 70 N·m (640 ± 51 lb ft), and re-tighten an additional 1/3 turn. Investigation into the root cause of the loosening is in process. If tractors operate with loose sprocket segment mounting bolts, the final drive sprocket hub might experience severe structural damage.
