Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.

First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.

A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.


  1. Disconnect the batteries.

  2. Place an index mark on all of the harness assemblies that are connected to the alternator. Disconnect the harness assemblies from the alternator.

  3. Remove cover (1).

  4. Use a breaker bar to release the tension on belt tensioner (6). Remove belt (4).

  5. Remove bolt (3) and bolt (5).

  6. Remove alternator (2).

  7. Remove nut (7) and remove the alternator pulley from the alternator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the alternator pulley and nut (7). Tighten the nut to a torque of 102 ± 7 N·m (75 ± 5 lb ft).

  2. Position alternator (2) on the mounting bracket.

  3. Install bolt (3) and bolt (5).

  4. Use a breaker bar to release the tension on belt tensioner (6). Install belt (4).

  5. Connect the harness assemblies to the alternator. Tighten the nuts. Refer to Specifications, "Alternator and Regulator" for the torque values.

  6. Install cover (1).

  7. Connect the batteries.
