Product Support Program For Reworking The Elevator Drive On Certain 613C, 615C, 623E Scrapers Caterpillar

NOTE: The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

NOTE: This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS0656" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use " Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the May 16, 1993 Service Letter. Limited distribution mail code A-45.1 was changed to general distribution mail code A-82.

Termination Date

Problem

The elevator support bearings on certain 613C, 615C, and 623E Scrapers may fail before reaching their desired service life. The housing, stub shaft, bearing and related parts can be replaced to increase the service life of the elevator drive.

Service Claim Allowances

Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.

Rework Procedure

1. Install the 7X1560 Seal in the 2T3864 Housing (613C) or 2T3885 Housing (615C & 623E).

2. Put the housing in position in the shaft assembly.

3. Install the first bearing cup and cone, the spacer, and the second bearing cup and cone that makeup the bearing assembly.

NOTE: Make sure that the bearings are thoroughly packed with grease.

4. Install the 2T3874 Plate, 7X0346 Bolt, and 8T4122 Washer. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 215 ± 40 N·m (160 ± 30 lb. ft.).

5. Pack additional grease around the bearings and into the cavity.

6. Install the gasket, cover, and the six 8T4205 Washers and 8T9364 Bolts that hold them.
