On/Off Time Delay (Relay)

  1. The following items are required for the performance check:

    • Battery or DC source of 8 to 40 volts

    • Voltmeter ( 6V-7070 Digital Multimeter or one of same accuracy)

    • Stop watch

  1. Bench test or installed test

Connect the source voltage to negative relay terminal (8) and positive relay terminal (4). During a bench test, connect the positive voltage to relay terminal (6). The connections must be maintained until the tests are complete.

Note: There will be voltage when the relay is closed. When the relay is open, there will be no voltage. The voltage may be positive or negative when the relay is tested on the engine. The voltage will always be positive during a bench test.

  1. Use a voltmeter in order to verify the information in Table 1.

    Table 1
    Terminal Relay Position
    Terminals     Relay Position
    5     Closed
    7     Open

  1. Apply Positive Source Voltage To Terminal (1) .

Immediately verify Table 2. (Do not leave the voltage on terminal (1) for more than 60 seconds.)

    Table 2
    Terminal Relay Position
    Terminals     Relay Position
    5     Open
    7     Closed

  1. Remove Positive Source Voltage From Terminal (1) .

Use a stop watch in order to check the time from the moment of removal in order to verify Table 3.

    Table 3
    Terminals     Delay Time to Function
    0 to 60 sec.     After 80 sec.
    5     Open     Closed
    7     Closed     Open

  1. Apply Positive Source Voltage To Terminal (2) .

Note: In bench testing, Step 6 can be used. When the unit is installed on the engine, all wires must be disconnected from terminal (2) in order to prevent a direct short.

Check the time when the voltage is applied in order to verify Table 4. (Do not leave the voltage on terminal (2) for more than 60 seconds.)

    Table 4
    Terminals     Delay Time to Function
    0 to 8 sec.     After 10 sec.
    5     Closed     Open
    7     Open     Closed

  1. Remove Positive Source Voltage From Terminal (2) .

Check the time from the moment of removal in order to verify Table 5.

    0 to 60 sec.     After 80 sec.
    5     Open     Closed
    7     Closed     Open

  1. Remove Wire From Terminal (4) .

    Verify Table 6.
