Front Timing Gear Cover

Usage:

Remove Front Timing Gear Cover

preparatory steps:

a) remove vibration damper and hub

b) remove fuel priming pump

c) remove alternator

1. Drain the jacket water cooling system. Drain the oil filter housing.

2. Remove the expansion tank water outlet line.

3. Remove the alternator support bracket (1) and belt adjustment bracket (2).

4. Remove the oil filter housing left support bracket (3). Remove the oil filter housing oil outlet lines (4) and fuel priming pump linkage (5) as a unit. Remove fuel priming pump fuel outlet line (9).

5. Remove the fuel drain line (6). Remove expansion tank overflow line clamp mounting bolt (7).

6. Disconnect the oil pressure gauge sensing line from timing gear cover. Disconnect the low oil pressure alarm sensing line (8) from timing gear cover.

7. Remove the ten timing gear cover-to-plate mounting bolts (10).

8. Remove the oil pan-to-timing gear cover mounting bolts. Loosen remaining oil pan mounting bolts. Raise the front of engine and install spacers (11) between oil pan and cylinder block on both sides of engine. Lower the engine.

9. Remove all timing gear cover mounting bolts and nuts.

10. Using lifting bracket (A), remove the front timing gear cover - weight 95 lbs. (43 kg).

Install Front Timing Gear Cover

1. Install a new timing gear cover-to-timing gear plate gasket. Trim the gasket flush with pan face of cylinder block.

NOTE: If oil pan gasket was damaged during removal of front timing gear cover, it will be necessary to remove the oil pan base in order to replace entire oil pan gasket.

2. Lubricate the lip of crankshaft front seal with clean SAE 30 engine oil.

3. Using lifting bracket (A), position the front timing gear cover on engine. Install the timing gear cover-to-cylinder block mounting bolts and nuts. Install timing gear cover-to-plate mounting bolts.

4. Raise the front of engine, and remove the spacers between oil pan and cylinder block. Lower the engine.

5. Install the oil pan-to-timing gear cover mounting bolts. Tighten remaining oil pan mounting bolts.

6. Connect the low oil pressure alarm sensing line to top of timing gear cover. Connect oil pressure gauge sensing line to top of timing gear cover.

7. Install expansion tank overflow line clamp mounting bolt. Install the fuel drain line.

8. Install the oil filter housing oil outlet lines and fuel priming pump linkage as a unit.

9. Install the oil filter housing left support bracket. Install the alternator support bracket and belt adjustment bracket.

10. Install the expansion tank water outlet line.

11. Fill the jacket water cooling system. Check the oil level in crankcase, and fill as necessary.

concluding steps:

a) install alternator

b) install fuel priming pump

c) install vibration damper and hub
