Stick - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.

  2. Remove the felling head.

------ WARNING! ------

When you are using hydraulic cylinders and puller studs, always ensure that the rated capacity of the puller stud meets or exceeds the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder. If the puller stud does not meet or exceed the rated capacity of the hydraulic cylinder, a sudden failure of the puller stud could occur. The sudden failure of the puller stud could result in personal injury or death.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Lower the boom until the boom cylinder is fully collapsed. Lower the stick to the ground.

  2. Attach a suitable lifting device to stick cylinder (1) by using Tooling (A) and (B), as shown. Remove bolt (2) and pin assembly (3). Lower the rod end of stick cylinder (1) away from the stick.

  3. Remove guards (4) from both sides of the stick. Disconnect four hose assemblies (5) from each side of the stick. Disconnect hose assemblies (6) for the tilt cylinder from each side of the stick.

  4. Remove bolts (7) from the upper part of belt (8). Position belt (8) onto the stick. Remove the nut and washer (9).

  5. Disconnect clips (10). Disconnect hose assembly (11) from the stick. Disconnect harness assembly (12) from the back of the lights. The connector (13) that is located on the back of the light assembly must be disassembled before the harness assembly can be removed from the stick. Remove harness assembly (12) from the stick.

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to stick (16). Remove bolt (14). Remove pin (15). It may be necessary to use Tooling (C) for removal of pin assembly (15), as shown. Remove stick (16). The weight of stick (16) is approximately 1225 kg (2700 lb).

  1. Remove the seals (1), (2) and (3). Remove the bearings.

  2. Install bearings (1) by using Tooling (A), (B, and) (C) (not shown) by pulling the bearings into the bores, as shown. Install the seal by using Tooling (D)

  3. Install bearings (2) by using Tooling (A), (B, and) (F) (not shown), as shown. Install the seal by using Tooling (D).

  4. Install bearings (3) by using Tooling (A), (B, and) (E) (not shown), as shown. Install the seal by using Tooling (D).
