Description of Change: The engine crankcase breather has been relocated in order to reduce spillage of oil during the operation of the truck on a grade.

To relocate the crankcase breather to the valve covers for the engine, use the procedure that follows:

  1. Remove the fumes disposal group.

  1. Install cover (1) and O-ring seal (2) with four bolts (3) and four hard washers (4) .

    Note: Refer to Step 3 through Step 13 for the 773F and the 775F Off-Highway Truck.

    Note: Refer to Step 14 through Step 22 for the 777F Off-Highway Truck.

  1. For the 773F and the 775F Off-Highway Truck, remove the rear valve covers from each side of the engine. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".

  1. Install two new covers (5) and two valve cover seals (6) .

  1. Install one O-ring seal (21) to each elbow (10). Before installation, lightly lubricate the O-ring seal with engine oil and lightly lubricate the O-ring groove with engine oil. Install an elbow (10) to each cover (5) with two bolts (11) .

  1. Install one O-ring seal (22) to each breather (9). Before installation, lightly lubricate the O-ring seal with engine oil and lightly lubricate the O-ring groove with engine oil. Install a breather (9) to each elbow (10) .

  1. Install a hose (7) to each breather (9) with clamp (8) .

  1. Install tube (17) to the hose (7) for the LH breather with clamp (8) .

  1. Secure tube (17) to the engine with clip (12), spacer (13), bolt (14), and hard washer (15) .

  1. Secure tube (17) to the engine block with clip (12), bolt (19), and hard washer (20) .

  1. Install tube (18) to the hose (7) for the RH breather with clamp (8) .

  1. Secure tube (18) to the engine with clip (12), spacer (13), bolt (14), and hard washer (15) .

  1. Secure tube (18) to the engine block with clip (12), bolt (19), and hard washer (20) .

  1. For the 777F Off-Highway Truck, remove the center valve covers from each side of the engine. See Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".

  1. Install two new covers (5) and two valve cover seals (6) .

  1. Install one O-ring seal (32) to each elbow (10). Before installation, lightly lubricate the O-ring seal with engine oil and lightly lubricate the O-ring groove with engine oil. Install an elbow (10) to each cover (5) with two bolts (11) .

  1. Install one O-ring seal (33) to each breather (9). Before installation, lightly lubricate the O-ring seal with engine oil and lightly lubricate the O-ring groove with engine oil. Install a breather (9) to each elbow (10) .

  1. Install a hose (7) to each breather (9) with clamp (8) .

  1. Install tube (21) to the hose (7) for the LH breather with clamp (8) .

  1. Secure tube (21) to the engine block with clip (23), bolt (24), hard washer (25), bracket (27), bolt (28), and hard washer (26) .

  1. Install tube (22) to the hose (7) for the RH breather with clamp (8) .

  1. Secure tube (22) to the engine block with clip (23), bolt (24), hard washer (25), bracket (29), spacer (30), bolt (31), and hard washer (26) .
The relocation of the breather is effective with the following machines:

  • 773F: DLS375-UP

  • 775F: EED372-UP

  • 777F: JRP543-UP

The relocation of the breather is adaptable to the following machines:

  • 773F: DLS1-374

  • 775F: EED1-371

  • 777F: JRP1-542
