The following EID codes are covered by this procedure:
- EID 140 FMI F11 - Left Ext. Unexpected Flame Det.
- EID 144 FMI F11 - Left Main Unexpected Flame Det.
- EID 148 FMI F11 - Right Ext. Unexpected Flame Det.
- EID 152 FMI F11 - Right Main Unexpected Flame Det.
EID codes are issued for events that are not within the normal operation of the system. These events usually are not diagnosed as being a problem with any one system component. While these events are not within normal operation of the Burner Electronic Control, they may occur occasionally. If the events occur occasionally and are easily corrected, usually this is not considered to be a problem. No components need to be replaced. If these events occur frequently, then the cause of the problem should be investigated and corrected.
A "Unexpected Flame Det." EID FMI F11 diagnostic is recorded when a flame is detected in the burner when there shoud not be a flame. Refer to the Systems Operation, "Burner Control" modules in this manual for the correct sequence of events for the ignition cycle.
The results of this active event code are:
- The burner diagnostic lamp, located beneath the screed walkway, is ON.
- The ECM will not allow the burner associated with the EID to ignite until the unexpected flame EID is cleared or the burner switch is moved to the MANUAL position.
The possible causes of this active event code are:
- A fuel valve or fuel line is leaking and the fuel has ignited.
- The flame sensor for the burner associated with the EID has malfunctioned.
- The ECM has malfunctioned. This is unlikely.
Perform the following procedure when the burner will not ignite.
Test Step 1. Check Burner Chamber
- Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Carefully check the burner chamber for the involved burner for the presence of a flame.
- Carefully check the burner chamber for any sign of leaking fuel.
Expected Result:
There is no flame in the burner chamber and there is no sign of leaking fuel in the burner chamber.
Results:
- OK - The burner chamber conditions are correct. Proceed to Step 2.
- NOT OK - A flame is present or there are signs of leaking fuel.
Repair: The fuel valve may be leaking or a fuel line could be leaking. If the fuel valve is suspected, clean the fuel valve. If the problem persists, replace the fuel valve. If a fuel line is found to be leaking, replace the fuel line.
Stop.
Test Step 2. Check To See If The EID is Still Present
- Move the disconnect switch to the ON position. Start the engine.
- Access Service Mode 3 on the conveyor ECM. Check to see if the unexpected flame detection EID for the burner is active (red indicator ON).
Expected Result:
The EID for the "Unexpected Flame Det." is no longer active.
Results:
- OK - The EID for the "Unexpected Flame Det." is no longer active.
Repair: The problem has corrected itself. Resume normal machine operation.
Stop.
- NOT OK - The EID for the "Unexpected Flame Det." is still active.
Repair: The flame sensor for the involved burner has failed. Replace the flame sensor.
Stop.
