Electrical System Voltage

This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the system voltage as being greater than 32.5 DCV.

The possible causes of this diagnostic code are:

  • A charging system component is malfunctioning.

  • The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.

System Response:

The results of this diagnostic code are:

  • Burner diagnostic code lamp will be ON.

Note: Access burner service mode 3 on the conveyor ECM. Ensure that the diagnostic code CID 168 FMI F03 for the system voltage is on hold and that the diagnostic code present indicator on the conveyor ECM display is ON or the burner diagnostic indicator is ON.

Test Step 1. Check Charging System

  1. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  1. Observe the status of the red diagnostic code present indicator.

Expected Result:

The red diagnostic code present indicator on the conveyor ECM display is ON.

Results:

  • YES - The diagnostic code present indicator on the conveyor ECM display is ON.

Repair: The CID 168 FMI F03 diagnostic code is active.

    Proceed to Test Step 3.

  • NO - The red diagnostic code present indicator on the ECM display is not ON. The CID 168 FMI F03 diagnostic code is not active. Proceed to Test Step 2.

Test Step 2. Check Charging System

  1. Start the engine.

  1. Access burner service mode 3 on the conveyor ECM. Observe the status of the diagnostic code present indicator.

Expected Result:

The CID 168 FMI F03 diagnostic code is active.

Results:

  • YES - The CID 168 FMI F03 diagnostic code is active. The charging system is charging at an excessive voltage.

Repair: Check the charging system and repair the charging system. Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for this machine for component and wiring harness information.

    Stop.

  • NO - The CID 168 FMI F03 diagnostic code is not active at this time.

Repair: There is no problem at this time. Resume normal machine operation.

    Stop.

Test Step 3. Check Battery Voltage

The engine is stopped.

  1. At the battery, measure the voltage.

Expected Result:

The measured voltage is less than 32.5 DCV.

Results:

  • OK - The measured voltage is less than 32.5 DCV.

Repair: The charging system is correct. The ECM may be incorrectly recording this diagnostic code.It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for this machine and check all involved wiring harness connectors and wiring. Ensure that the connector contacts are clean and in good condition. Ensure that all machine harness wiring is intact and in good condition. If the cause of this error code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace" in this manual.

    Stop.

  • NOT OK - The measured voltage is more than 32.5 DCV.

Repair: The charging system is charging at an excessive voltage. Check the charging system and repair the charging system. Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for this machine for component and wiring harness information.

    Stop.
