Rework Procedure
Install the update kits following the procedures packaged with the kits. In addition, instruct every person who tows one of these trailers:
1. To determine the trailer gross weight and the trailer tongue weight.
2. To determine the towing capability of the towing vehicle as specified in the truck owner's manual. Generally, a 1-ton truck is not large enough to tow an "XQ" trailer. Most 1- ton trucks are sufficient for towing an " XQ" trailer but the truck owner's manual should still be consulted for verification.
3. The trailer must be level to tow safely. If the trailer is not level, adjust the hitch to level the trailer. If the hitch cannot be adjusted to a level position, use a different tow vehicle.
4. The trailer must receive proper maintenance and towing preparations as outlined in the "XQ" Operation and Maintenance Manual, and the Dexter Axle Supplemental Operation and Maintenance Manual.
5. The trailer is designed to be towed at a maximum safe speed of 55 Mph. Exceeding this speed is not recommended. It is the driver's responsibility to be aware of road and weather conditions, and to adjust the driving speed accordingly.
A warning decal included in each update kit should be affixed in a prominent location on the front of the battery compartment access panel. Also included in the kit are two new hooks to be installed on the safety chains. These updates should be performed before the next rental of the "XQ" trailers.
