Problem
The nut that retains the compressor wheel to the shaft on certain remanufactured 0R5384, 0R5726, 0R5728, and 0R6007 Turbocharger Groups and 0R5729 Turbocharger Cartridge Assemblies needs to be tightened.
Action Required
1. Inspect all 0R5384, 0R5726, 0R5728, and 0R6007 Turbocharger Groups and 0R5729 Turbocharger Cartridge Assemblies in parts stock. If there is a blue dot on the outside of the box, an "R" stamped in the upper left corner of the name plate or a date code of 7/93 or later, place them back in stock. If none of these conditions exist, proceed to the next step. 2. Mark a straight line on the compressor nut, compressor wheel and the threads of the shaft and wheel. Use this line as a reference to determine if the nut or wheel rotate when checking the torque of the nut. 3. Using a twelve-point socket with a "T" handle torque setting device, check the torque of the nut that secures the compressor wheel to the shaft. NOTE: A "T" handle torque setting device must be used. DO NOT apply side pressure to the shaft. If the shaft is bent, the compressor wheel may contact the compressor housing during operation. The torque specifications for these turbocharger compressor wheel retaining nuts are: CARTRIDGE NUMBER TORQUE SPECIFICATION FOR NUT 0R5384 44 +/- 3 Nm (32 +/- 2 ft. lb.) 0R5726 44 +/- 3 Nm (32 +/- 2 ft. lb.) 0R5728 44 +/- 3 Nm (32 +/- 2 ft. lb.) 0R5729 44 +/- 3 Nm (32 +/- 2 ft. lb.) 0R6007 25 +/- 1 Nm (18 +/- 1 ft. lb.) 5. Check to ensure that neither the compressor nut nor the compressor wheel moved relative to the shaft. If there was no movement, stamp a "D" in the upper left corner of the nameplate, mark the outside of the box with a blue dot and return the unit to parts stock. 6. If either the nut or wheel moved, DO NOT return the turbocharger cartridge to parts stock.
Service Claim Allowances
Submit one claim for all 0R5384, 0R5726, 0R5728, and 0R6007 Turbocharger Groups and 0R5729 Turbocharger Cartridge Assemblies not returned to parts stock. For each turbocharger group or cartridge assembly that had the nut torque checked, claim .3 hour labor.
