Procedure To Replace Studs In Bottom Wear Plate On VIP Screeds {8225}

Usage:

AP-800, AP-1200 Asphalt Pavers Equipped With 8 Or 10 Foot VIP Screeds

Be sure to promptly replace broken studs in the bottom wear plate. Operating with a broken stud or studs can cause the bottom wear plate to warp. A warped wear plate can cause waves in the mat when paving. Use the procedure that follows to replace the broken stud.

It may be necessary to remove the bottom wear plate to replace some of the studs.

1. Remove the broken stud.

2. Inspect the threaded hole where the stud was removed. Tap the holes again with 1/2" - 13 NC threads if required.

3. Install a new 8T7998 Stud in the threaded hole. Tighten the stud to a torque of 100 ± 14 N·m (75 ± 10 lb ft).

4. Grind the bottom of the stud even with the bottom of the wear plate. If a machine is operated with studs either longer or shorter than the bottom of the wear plate, tears in the mat may result.
