Usage:
D11N, 776B Tractors, 777B, 785, and 789 Trucks
There have been cases where incorrect parts have been used for the vertical connector between the cylinder block and the aftercooler during field repairs of the above models. The D11N Tractor uses jacket water aftercooling with an open connector between the coolant passage in the cylinder block and the aftercooler. The 776B Tractor, 777B, 785, and 789 Trucks use a separate circuit aftercooling system and a connector that has a float valve between the cylinder block and the aftercooler. The float valve allows air to be vented out of the block while filling the cooling system but it is closed and keeps the two systems separate while the engine is running. Also, the float valve will allow the aftercooler to drain when the cylinder block is drained.
If the open connector is used in a 776B Tractor, 777B, 785 or 789 Truck, this will allow mixing of the jacket and aftercooler water and can raise the aftercooler water temperature with low engine power complaints. Be sure to use the correct type of connector when repairing or rebuilding any of the above models.
