Coolant Temperature Sensor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


Note: Inspect all O-ring, seals, and gaskets for wear and damage. Replace if necessary.

  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level below the coolant temperature sensor into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Disconnect harness assembly (1).

  3. Remove coolant temperature sensor (2).

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Install coolant temperature sensor (2) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten coolant temperature sensor (2) to a torque of 20 ± 3 N·m (177 ± 27 lb in).

  2. Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
