Priming the Jacket Water Heater System on Certain 3500 and C175 Engines{1383}

Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the proper procedure to prime the jacket water heater system.

Priming Procedure

  1. Prime the block outlet to the coolant tank line by opening the ball valve slightly until coolant begins to flow from the line.

    Note: Catch the coolant in a suitable container for reuse or disposal.

  1. Connect the coolant line to the coolant tank.

  1. Close the ball valve.

  1. Prime the block inlet to the jacket water heater pump coolant line by opening the ball valve slightly until coolant begins to flow from the line.

    Note: Catch the coolant in a suitable container for reuse or disposal.

  1. Connect the coolant line to the jacket water heater pump.

  1. Close the ball valve.

  1. Loosen the line connection on the top of the jacket water pump.

  1. Open the block outlet ball valve slightly until coolant gurgles from the top of the pump.

  1. Tighten the connection at the top of the pump.

  1. Open both engine ball valves completely.
