The maintenance intervals for certain Tier 4 Interim engines are reduced to extend component service life in lesser regulated countries.
Tier 4 interim engines were developed for countries that operate with fuel that contains less than 15 ppm sulfur. In countries where allowed by law, if the fuel used contains more than 15 ppm of sulfur the following actions are recommended to extend the engine service life:
- Shorten the first engine oil change interval to 250 hours
- Use S.O.S analysis to determine the appropriate future oil change interval. If S.O.S services are not available, use 250 hours as the standard interval
- Inspect and/or replace the flexible NOx reduction system lines every 1,000 hours (if equipped on the serial numbers listed above)
- Diesel particulate filter ash cleaning interval may be reduced depending on fluids used and operating conditions
Note: Refer to Special Instructions, REHS5045, "Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Maintenance on Tier 4 Products Equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)" for ash service options.
For diesel fuel that does not meet desired cleanliness levels, Caterpillar has additional fuel filtration options available. Consult your local Caterpillar dealer for additional options and details.
