Service Magazine, SEPD0844, 03 July 2006, "New High Efficiency Oil Filters are Now Available". Disregard this article. Refer to the article that follows.
Two new high efficiency engine oil filters are now available with an improved filter medium. The new high efficiency 1R-1807 Engine Oil Filter Assembly is a service replacement for the 1R-0739 Engine Oil Filter Assembly and the new high efficiency 1R-1808 Engine Oil Filter Assembly is a service replacement for the 1R-0716 Engine Oil Filter Assembly. These new spin-on oil filters were released for new production engines January 2004. These new high efficiency engine oil filters are now the preferred filters for a replacement preventive maintenance program. The new high efficiency engine oil filters enable customers to increase the capabilities of controlling contamination over the standard filters. The new high efficiency engine oil filters will not reduce the recommended Caterpillar oil change intervals.

These new high efficiency oil filters are approved for engines in all applications that use the former standard oil filters that are listed above. These new high efficiency spin-on oil filters with the improved filter medium result in an increased capacity in contamination control. Therefore, these filters are more efficient in providing increased filtration with excellent capacity in order to retain dirt with a minimal pressure drop. These new high efficiency engine oil filters provide improved protection for HEUI injectors, pump components, the injection actuation pressure control system, and other critical engine components. Illustration 2 and 3 below illustrates the improvements in the filtration of the standard versus new filters. Illustration 4 below illustrates the minor differences between the capacity of the new filter versus the standard filter in order to hold dirt.
