3306 VEHICULAR ENGINE Caterpillar

Fuel Ratio Control

Usage:

Remove Fuel Ratio Control

1. Remove rear bolt (5) and loosen the front bolt that fastens linkage bracket (4) to the governor.

2. Disconnect pressure line (3) from the fuel ratio control.

3. Remove two bolts (2) 180° apart that fasten the fuel ratio control from the governor. Move the fuel ratio control (1) up to disengage it from the lever assembly in the governor.

Typical Example

4. Remove screen assembly (7).

5. Remove four O-ring seals (6).

Install Fuel Ratio Control

Typical Example

1. Inspect screen assembly (2) and O-ring seals (1). Make replacements if necessary.

2. Install four O-ring seals (1) and screen assembly (2).

Typical Example

3. Put fuel ratio control (3) in position and engage the fuel ratio control with the lever assembly in the governor.

4. Install bolts (4) that hold the fuel ratio control and connect pressure line (5) to fuel ratio control (3).

5. Install bracket (7) in position on governor body. Tighten bolt (6).

6. See TESTING AND ADJUSTING for fuel ratio control adjustment procedure.

Disassemble Fuel Ratio Control

Start By:

a. remove fuel ratio control

1. Remove bolts (2) which hold cover (1) to housing (3). Be careful when bolts (2) are removed because cover (1) is under spring force.

2. Make a separation of the components of the fuel ratio control: cover (1), spring (4), valve (5), spring (6), retainer (7), spring (8), valve assembly (9) and housing (3).

3. Make a separation of the covers (1).

4. Remove nut (11) and stop (10) from the cover.

5. Remove nut (12), washer (13), washer (14), diaphragm (15), valve extension (17), spring (16) and valve (18).

6. Use tooling (A) to remove snap ring (19).

7. Remove piston (20) from valve (18).

8. Remove seal (21) from piston (20).

9. Inspect all parts and make replacements if necessary.

Assemble The Fuel Ratio Control

1. Put seal (21) on piston (20). Install the seal so the lip is toward the direction of the center of piston (20).

2. Put piston (20) on valve assembly (18).

3. Use tooling (A) to put the snap ring (19) in position.

4. Put O-ring seal (22) in position on valve extension (17).

5. Put diaphragm (15) on retainer (23). The outer lip of the diaphragm must be toward the hole with thread.

6. Put engine oil on seal (22), on valve extension (17) and put valve extension (17) into retainer (23). Install spacer (24) and nut (12).

7. Put spring (16) into valve extension (17) and engage internal valve (18) with hook on the valve extension (17).

8. Put washer (13) on diaphragm (15). The flat side of washer (13) must be in contact with diaphragm (15).

9. Put stop (10) in cover (1). Put nut (16) on stop (10).

10. Make a replacement of the gasket on cover (1). Put cover (1) on cover (1) and install the bolts which hold the covers together.

11. Put engine oil on the seal on valve assembly (9) and put valve assembly (9) into housing (3).

12. Put spring (18) on valve assembly (9).

13. Engage retainer (7) with spring (8). Put spring (7) into retainer (7).

14. Put engine oil on valve (25) and put retainer (5) into housing (3). Engage internal valve (25) into valve assembly (9).

15. Put spring (4) into the open face of the washer behind the diaphragm.

16. Put cover (1) against housing (3). Make sure the ring on the diaphragm is engaged with the groove in cover (1).

NOTE: Before installing the fuel ratio control, make adjustments, according to FUEL INJECTION TEST BENCH, SPECIAL INSTRUCTION, Form No. SEHS7465-01.

End By:

a. install fuel ratio control
