Pipe Plug Added To Rear Of Cylinder Block Prevents Oil Leakage Into Flywheel Housing{1201}

3412 Marine Engines

Description of Change: A pipe plug is now installed in the oil passage at the rear of the cylinder block on 3412 Marine Engines. The location is on the vertical centerline, near the top of the cylinder block. See the illustration. The pipe plug prevents possible oil leakage from the passage into the flywheel housing at this location if the gasket does not seal the hole tightly.

Adaptable To: All earlier engines. When there is oil leakage at this location on an earlier engine, and the hole is not used for an oil supply to accessory equipment, a 9F2247 Pipe Plug (Hex Countersunk) can be installed. When installed, the plug must be even with, to 12.7 mm (.50") below the surface of the cylinder block. Use a 1/8-27 pipe tap to cut threads in the hole deep enough so the plug can be installed to the correct depth. Do not install the plug deeper than 12.7 mm (.50"). Be sure to keep metal particles out of the oil system when the threads are cut, and use sealant on the threads when the plug is installed.
