This is an initial order recommendation only, and the ultimate responsibility for ordering the total number of parts needed to satisfy the program lies with the dealer. |
ACTION REQUIRED
NOTE: Final drives may experience failures for several reasons with one of the most common being a result of dirt entry into the component. This situation is usually detected via normal oil sampling and catastrophic damage can normally be avoided. However, normal oil sample analysis may not detect this bearing problem because the particles are sometimes too big. A better check is to look at the magnetic plug every 250 hours when doing the OMM prescribed oil level check. Excessive debris on the plug can indicate a problem with the second reduction planet bearings. Refer to RENR8166 for removal and installation of the final drive planetary carrier (in chassis) as necessary. 1. Inspect the magnetic drain plug for excessive debris when performing the 250 hour maintenance interval oil level check. 2. If excessive debris is found, determine the failed parts. - If the failure is determined to be the second reduction planetary bearings, apply this program to replace the second reduction planet bearings and cups with new 362-5414 Cone Bearings and 1L-7319 Cups. - If the failure is not related to the second reduction planetary bearings, this program does not apply. The labor provided in this letter assumes that problem bearings are identified prior to a catastrophic failure. |
