Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst. |
|
NOTE: |
This Revised Service Letter replaces the 07Aug2007 (Revised 23May2008) Service Letter. Changes have been made to modify the Problem, to add a note in the Service Claim Allowances, and to add a step in the Action Required. |
The existing 253-2439 Decelerator Pedal Group can cause sticky pedal or harsh braking on certain D6K XL and D6K LGP Track-Type Tractors. If the pedal is not fully released during calibration it can generate inadequate decel pedal modulation. That leads to harsh braking. If the existing pedal sticks, it can be reworked by loosening the nut and changing the spring & the seat/cup. If the machine is jerky during braking this can be due to pedal sticking. |

Remove the pedal from the cab. Change the spring and the seat by a washer. Refer to image 2. Adjust the nut to 14 mm. Refer to Image 3. Check the function of the pedal by releasing it very slowly. If the pedal sticks, loosen the nut an additional 1 mm, and check the function of the pedal again. Repeat adjusting the nut in 1 mm increments until pedal function is good. Perform calibration after adjusting the pedal. |
