Engine Oil Cooler

Usage:

Remove & Install Engine Oil Cooler

FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENT

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Product Guide", NENG2500, for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the oil from the oil cooler and the coolant from the engine into suitable containers for storage or disposal.

2. Remove four bolts (3) that hold the oil cooler to the oil filter base. Disconnect hose assembly (4) from the oil cooler.

3. Remove four bolts (1) that hold the oil cooler to the cylinder block. Remove engine oil cooler (2).

4. Remove coupling (6) from the water inlet pipe.

5. Remove O-ring seals (5) from coupling (6).

6. Put identification marks on the elbow and oil cooler for proper alignment during assembly. Remove elbow (7) from the oil cooler. Remove the O-ring seal from the elbow.

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the engine oil cooler.

7. Put the O-ring seal in position on elbow (7). Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal.

8. Align the elbow with the oil cooler and install elbow (7) in oil cooler (2).

9. Install O-ring seals (5) on coupling (6). Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seals.

10. Install coupling (6) in the water inlet pipe.

11. Put the oil cooler in position on the engine and install four bolts (1).

12. Install four bolts (3) that hold the oil cooler to the oil filter base. Connect hose assembly (4) to the oil cooler.

13. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual.

14. Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
