Cracked/Brittle Oil Screen

Oil screens mounted between the high-pressure fuel pump and mounting adapter have been found highly degraded, brittle, and cracked on certain C175 Off-Highway Truck Engines and 3512E Well Service Engines. Refer to Illustration 1.

Note: The reference part numbers for C175 Engines is 459-6534 Filter Screen As and 3512E Engines is 493-0525 Filter Screen As.

Solution

Caterpillar ® is aware of the problem. As an interim repair, Caterpillar recommends that the oil screen be replaced with a new oil screen at any time when the High-Pressure Fuel Pump is removed, regardless of reason for pump removal.
