This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI10956" as the Part Number and "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code.
Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI10956" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

The engine oil filters need to be replaced on certain C175-16, C175-20 Generator Sets and Locomotive Engines. The existing engine oil filters can fail, which in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, may result in a risk of personal injury or death.

Remove all 368-0066 Oil Filters from dealer parts stock that have a "C" marked on the filter end.

Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual if/as needed.

1. Connect a hose to the drain valve (3). Place the other end of the hose into a suitable container in order to collect the oil.

NOTE: Drain the oil into a suitable container. Dispose of the oil according to local regulations.

2. Open the drain valve (3). Allow the oil to drain. Clean the plug and install the plug. Close the drain valve. Remove the hose from the drain.

NOTE: Some oil will remain in the housing after the oil has been drained. This oil will pour out of the housing when the cover (2) is removed. Prepare to catch the oil in a suitable container. Clean up any spilled oil with rags. Do not use absorbent particles to clean up the oil.

3. Gradually loosen but do not remove the bolts (1) holding the cover (2). (Caution: be alert to the spring force). Before completely removing the bolts (1), pry the cover (2) loose in order to relieve any spring pressure. Fully remove the bolts (1), the cover (2) and the filter tray. Remove the O-ring seal on the inside of the cover.

4. Clean the cover (2) and clean the O-ring seal. Clean the inside of the oil filter housing.

5. Install the new 368-0066 Oil Filter Elements and ensure "K" is marked on the filter end. Reference Image 2.

6. Inspect the O-ring seal. Ensure that the surfaces for the O-ring seal are clean.

7. Install the cover (2) and bolts (1). Ensure that the springs are seated properly between the cover and the oil filter elements.

8. Inspect the used filters and locate both seals for each filter. If portions of the seals or entire seals are missing, inspect the filter housing area for the seals. If portions of the seals or entire seals can not be located in the filter housing area, contact your Caterpillar Service Representative. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS9210, "Engine Oil System Inspection Procedure For Certain C175 Engines" for information on locating missing seals.
