When reporting the repair, use "PI32274" as the Part Number and "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI32274" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

PROBLEM

New software is required to offer protection to the turbocharger on cold start. The turbocharger can suffer bearing failure on certain C7.1 Industrial Engines due to oil starvation during rapid acceleration immediately following cold start.

ACTION REQUIRED

Before completing the rework, please review the safety actions in the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the engine.

This Program has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. As such it is a mandatory requirement for a Field Fix Rework label to be affixed to every reworked engine.

A label, Reference CPI295973_RW001, must be obtained from EngineCertificationHelp@perkins.com identifying Reference CPI295973_RW001 and the machine and engine serial number.

The dealer initiating the rework must ensure the label has been received before the rework can be carried out.

Adhere the field fix label onto the engine front cover. The label is classified as a permanent part and must NOT be removed during any service or maintenance activity. The label is a security type label which will be damaged / destroyed by any attempt at removal.

Prior to fitting the label be sure that the mounting location is free from debris, loose materials and grease. The area can be degreased using a suitable proprietary cleaner prior to label fitting.

Please choose one of the following actions:

1. If turbocharger has not failed, reflash the engine ECM with the new software.
The new software holds the engine at a safe speed until oil pressure is detected.

2. If the turbocharger has failed, replace the turbocharger and reflash engine ECM with new software.

For detailed instructions on removing and installing the turbocharger refer to KENR9105, "Turbocharger - Remove - First Stage Turbocharger" and "Turbocharger - Install - First Stage Turbocharger".

You will not be charged for the service performed.

Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.

If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 11Dec2013 when scheduling this service.
