PROBLEM
Clutch 6 in the transmission planetary needs to be reworked on certain CX48-P2300 Petroleum Transmissions. The existing clutch piston can stick resulting in premature clutch failure. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Refer to the following sections in Disassembly and Assembly Manual: UENR0177 - Control Manifold ? Remove & Install - Transmission Planetary ? Remove & Install - Transmission Planetary ? Disassemble - Transmission Planetary ? Assemble Replace the 3T-2637 Piston in clutch 6 with a new 442-0186 Piston and 442-0187 Plate. Install a new 359-5447 Housing As. After assembly, bench test the transmission. Refer to Transmission Bench Test Procedure ? REHS3639. The 3T-2637 Piston and 359-5447 Housing As removed from the transmission should be carefully packaged to prevent damage and returned to Caterpillar. These parts need to be returned as soon as possible. Contact the service engineer that you have been working with to generate a Send It Back request. |

The piston and housing assembly should be carefully packaged to prevent damage and returned to Caterpillar.
