Caterpillar Electronic Locomotive Control System II Caterpillar

Problem Number 7 Cab Mounted Warning Light Turns On

Usage:

STEP 1. Check Locomotive Control Box Diagnostic Lamps

Test Procedure:

Observe the diagnostic lamps visible at the Control box lid.

Expected Results:

A system fault code is displayed by the diagnostic lamps. If more than one fault exists, the faults are displayed consecutively at 5 second intervals. Troubleshoot multiple faults in the order listed below.

STEP 2. Check Connections to Warning Light

Test Procedure:

Troubleshoot Warning Lamp Relay in junction box and wiring from relay contacts to warning light, looking for short circuits or intermittent connections.

Expected Results:

No short circuits or intermittent connections are found.

STEP 3. Check Power Supply to Control Box

Test Procedure:

Stop engine. Disconnect connector J1 from Locomotive Control box. Measure the DC voltage between harness connector J1 pins 8 and 9 while the harness leads are manually shaken.

Expected Results:

The battery voltage applied to the control box is constant and between 64 and 110 volts DC.
