8. Rack Actuator Installation

Usage:

There are three locations for the rack actuator, one for each type of engine (3412, 3500 and 3600).

3412 Rack Actuator Linkage Adjustment (EG3P Rack Actuator)

EG3P Rack Actuator
(1) Lever. (2) Terminal shaft. (3) Rod assembly. (4) EG3P Rack Actuator. (5) Lever.

1. Remove rod assembly (3).

2. Rotate actuator terminal shaft (2) to the fuel shut-off position.

3. Install lever (1) on actuator terminal shaft (2) so that the centerline of the lever is 45 ± 5° from the horizontal centerline of the actuator terminal shaft as illustrated.

4. Hold lever (1) and lever (5) in the fuel shut-off position. Adjust rod assembly (3) to fit between lever (1) and lever (5). Be sure each rod end on the rod assembly has the same amount of thread engagement.

3500 Rack Actuator Linkage Adjustment (EG10P Rack Actuator)

EG10P Rack Actuator
(1) Shaft. (2) Lever. (3) Rod end. (4) Nut. (5) Rod assembly. (6) Lever. (7) Terminal shaft. (8) EG10P Actuator.

1. Remove rod assembly (5).

2. Rotate actuator terminal shaft (7) to the fuel shut-off position.

3. Install lever (6) on actuator terminal shaft (7) so that the centerline of the lever is 30 ± 5° from the horizontal centerline of the actuator terminal shaft as illustrated.

4. Rotate control linkage shaft (1) to the fuel shut-off position.

5. Install lever (2) on shaft (1) so that the centerline of the lever is 8.5° below the horizontal centerline of shaft (1) as illustrated.

6. Hold lever (2) and lever (6) in the fuel shut-off position. Adjust rod assembly (5) to fit between lever (2) and lever (6). Be sure each rod end (3) on the rod assembly has the same amount of thread engagement.

7. Tighten nuts (4) to a torque of 12 ± 4 N·m (9 ± 3 lb ft).

3600 Rack Actuator Linkage Adjustment (EG29P Rack Actuator)

FT1829 Governor Calibrating Tool

EGB29P Rack Actuator
(1) EGB29P Rack Actuator. (2) Synchronizing pin. (3) Spacer. (4) Lever. (5) Terminal shaft. (6) Rod assembly.

NOTE: Be sure that the air shut-off solenoid on rod assembly (6) is in the run position.

1. Remove rod assembly (6).

2. Rotate Actuator terminal shaft (5) 42.5% (percent) of the total travel (or 12.76°) from the minimum fuel position. Each full graduation on scale (7) is to 3°. Rotate the terminal shaft until indicator (8) reads 4.25 full graduations.

(7) Scale. (8) Indicator

3. Use the FT1829 Governor Calibrating Tool to hold the actuator terminal shaft in this position.

4. With actuator terminal shaft (5) held in place, install lever (4) on the shaft with the centerline of the lever 14.73 ± 3.75° from the vertical centerline as illustrated.

Fuel Injection Linkage Control Housing
(2) Synchronizing pin. (3) Spacer. (9) Fuel stop lever. (Y) Location for dial indicator. (Z) Location for synchronizing pin.

5. Remove the plug at location (Z).

6. Remove synchronizing pin (2), and install it in the threaded hole at location (Z) without spacer (3).

7. Rotate fuel stop lever (9) until the flat surface of the lever contacts the end of the synchronizing pin. Hold the fuel stop lever in this position.

8. Adjust rod assembly (6) to fit between the levers. Be sure each rod end on the rod assembly has the same amount of thread engagement.

9. Remove synchronizing pin (2). Install the plug at location (Z). Install the synchronizing pin and spacer (3) in the storage location.

10. Remove the FT1829 Governor Calibrating Tool from the actuator.
