Caterpillar Electronic Locomotive Control System II Caterpillar

6. Wiring Installation

Usage:

The engine wiring harness may be factory installed. If not the harness must be installed on the engine.

The details of the harness wiring will depend on the type of engine and the type of application. In general most applications utilize three connections on the engine as follows:

RACK ACTUATORENGINE SPEED SENSORRACK POSITION SENSOR

Other applications may include additional items such as a water temperature sensor and temperature interface module. A few applications may not include the rack position sensor.

On most engines, the engine harness will terminate at a Caterpillar designed junction box that may include the start/stop logic, emergency shutdown logic, and connections to the rest of the locomotive's electrical system. An extension harness connects this junction box to the Locomotive governor. If a mounting group is used the connections to the locomotive's electrical system would normally be made directly to the mounting group rather than being routed through the junction box.
