Block diagram of the VIMS Truck Payload Measurement System (TPMS) |
The Truck Payload Measurement System (TPMS) with "second gear weighing" is a subsystem of the Vital Information Management System (VIMS). The TPMS performs the functions that are listed here:
- Calculate the information for the payload cycle.
- Store the information for the payload cycle.
- Display the information for the payload cycle.
In addition to the weight of the payload, the TPMS stores the data that is listed here for each payload cycle:
- Start time of the cycle.
- Start date of the cycle
Note: This data serves as a continuous data logger. The data can be used to indicate the operation of the truck when a file for the data logger does not exist. This provides the information that is listed below:
- Loading time
- Empty time
- Loaded time
- Loaded travel time
- Empty travel distance
- Loaded travel distance
The onboard memory can store information for approximately 2400 payload cycles. If the register for the payload cycle becomes full, the new data for the payload cycle is written over the data of the oldest cycles. The onboard payload data can be downloaded to the service tool with VIMSpc for further analysis. After a successful download, the onboard payload data can be reset.
Payload weight data can also be broadcast via a user supplied radio telemetry system. If the radio telemetry system has been enabled, the calculated payload weight will be broadcast under the following conditions:
- Each detected loader pass
- The truck has been shifted into "2nd" gear.
- A truck has travelled "loaded" for a distance that is greater than
.16 km (0.1 miles) . - Information about the complete cycle is also available to broadcast at the end of the payload cycle.
The "load cycle" is displayed on the Messenger/Advisor display. The calculated payload weight is displayed automatically during loading. Payload status lamps provide feedback to the loader operator during the loading operation. The lamps indicate whether the truck is fully loaded. The lamps will indicate whether the truck can continue to be loaded. The payload status lamps reduce the amount of incorrect loading. During the loading process, the truck operator will see the following information on the Messenger/Advisor display.
Message | Description |
---|---|
"Loading" | Continue to load the truck. |
"Fully Loaded" | The truck is fully loaded. |
"Last Pass" | An additional pass is required in order to fully load the truck. |
The operator can access various parameters of payload via the Messenger/Advisor menus at any time during the load cycle.
Note: The "last pass indicator" works correctly in "loading" applications that require at least three passes of the loader after the truck has come to a stop for loading. If the first loader pass is used to spot the truck then a minimum of four loader passes are necessary for the last pass indicator to work correctly.
The external payload display provides feedback to the loader operator during the loading operation. The external payload display provides the loader operator with a digital readout of the payload weight.
Whenever the physical configuration of the truck has been changed, the procedure of manual calibration must be performed. The procedure represents an empty truck. The replacement of the suspension cylinders is an example of a condition that would require the procedure of manual calibration.
"Automatic recalibration" of a truck occurs when an empty truck has stopped. This compensates for the conditions that affect the empty weight of the truck. Conditions that can affect the empty weight of a truck are listed here: carryback weight and the amount of fuel that is onboard This includes any other item that contributes to the Gross Machine Weight. Axles and tires are not included.
Some parameters can be modified with the service tool in order to support a wide range of machine configurations.
Information such as "total number of loads hauled" and "total weight hauled" can be displayed on the Messenger/Advisor display. These totals can be reset by the operator via the Messenger/Advisor display. For example, you can use this function to reset the totals prior to a "shift change".
