    1. Tighten the tie rods in sequence to the first torque value. Refer to Table 4 for the first torque value. Refer to Illustration 4 for the proper sequence for tightening the tie rods.

    1. Tighten the tie rods in sequence to the second torque value. Refer to Table 4 for the second torque value. Refer to Illustration 4 for the proper sequence for tightening the tie rods.

    1. Tighten the tie rods in sequence to the third torque value. Refer to Table 4 for the third torque value. Refer to Illustration 4 for the proper sequence for tightening the tie rods.

Note: Direct the flame away from the cylinder of the hammer. Thin steel sheets can be placed behind the tie rods in order to assist in deflecting the flame from the cylinder. Do not heat in one spot. Do not heat tie rods to a temperature that is greater than 300 °C (572 °F).

Note: The tie rods must be heated in the proper sequence.

Note: Use two people to maintain the heat on the tie rod.

    1. Tighten the tie rods in sequence to the final torque value. Refer to Table 4 for the final torque value. Refer to Illustration 4 for the proper sequence for tightening the tie rods. Heat the exposed center portions of the tie rods with a propane flame or equivalent to 275° ± 25°C (527° ± 45°F). Perform this process to obtain the turning angles of the tie rod. Use Tooling (A) to determine the temperature of the tie rods.

    1. Allow the tie rods to cool.

  1. Install O-ring seal (5) onto plug (4) on the seal carrier.

    Illustration 9g00702474

Note: After achieving the final torque setting on the tie rods, check that the lock plates will fit before the tie rods cool. The lock plates are not symmetrical. If the lock plates will not fit, turn over the lock plate and try to fit the lock plate again. If the lock plates still do not fit, turn the tie rods slightly while heating the exposed portion of the tie rods until the lock plates can be installed.

  1. Install lock plates (2) onto tie rods (3) .

  1. Install rubber rings (1) .

End By:

  1. Install the accumulator. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Accumulator - Install".
  2. Install the hammer into the housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Hammer - Install".
